The Fellowship of the Ring | The Two Towers | The Return of the King
He takes his staff which he uses for his powers and rides to the highest Wizard, Saruman, to tell him about the One Ring being found. They would've teamed up but Saruman's joined forces with the Dark Lord Sauron. Gandalf tells this news to the Counsil of Elrond, and takes his place in the Fellowship as their guide, already being an old friend of Frodo's. Sounds
boring... Shh! I'm just getting to
the interesting bit: Disaster strikes! On their quest, the Fellowship are
forced to go through
Moria, an old Dwarf mine. Straight into a trap,
basically. Gandalf is defeated by the fiery Balrog creature there
and there's a soppy bit where the Fellowship are crying. Not exactly - Gandalf is brought back to life by the Valar, the oldest race of all, to go on helping the Company. He still has a part to play in the story. He returns as Gandalf the White, sort of promoted since he beat the Balrog. Gandalf the White is here to give Saruman the Evil Wizard a run for his robes... Gandalf quote: "10,000
Orcs now stand between Frodo and Mount Doom. I've sent him to his
death."
Saruman the White is the most powerful of the Istari - a group of Wizards sent to Middle Earth to help against the threat of Mordor. Cool, huh?
Can I just take this moment to say ew? Sure. So, Elves were tortured to become Orc by Sauron, then the Orc were bred with Goblin Men by Saruman. How can he do that all on his own? Saruman also has a trusty slave, Wormtongue, who does his inside dirty work. Organised, huh? Saruman quote: "If the wall is breached, Helm's Deep will fall."
